“I've been using Claude Lakey mouthpieces since 1979 and have yet to find a better alto mouthpiece at any price than my 4*3. Believe me when I say that I've tried them all (Jody Jazz, SR Tech, Vandoren V16, Yanagisawa Metal, Meyer, Selmer Super Session, Dukoff, etc.....). Naturally I'm always curious about new products, but I find that I keep coming back to my 4*3 for effortless response, richness, clarity and power. I pride myself with wonderful sound and fellow sax players always inquire about my set-up which is a Lakey 4*3, LaVoz Med. and a Bonade Nickel Ligature and more recently a Vandoren Optimum Ligature. These ligs really compliment the Lakey. Anyone who has heard me compare my Lakey to these other mouthpieces I've tried always prefer the Lakey. They always comment on the wonderful sound I get. I've turned several players on to these pieces as a result. My hope is you continue to produce these wonderful gems. There is nothing else out there quite like the Lakey's from my experience. Keep up the good work and except my very best regards.”

“I was very pleased with the soprano mouthpieces I tried and also pleased at the way they responded. Compared to the Bari mouthpiece I’ve been using, the sound is much more focused and in tune throughout the range of the horn. I chose the 7* because it is bright, yet still full, just as I experienced with my alto 7*3. I do stand behind Lakey products and am glad to lend my name to your list of endorsers.”
- Sonya Jason
“My new tenor mouthpiece makes playing fun again.”
- Orrin Tucker
I’ve been looking for a new tenor mouthpiece for a quartet I recently formed and the 5*3 works perfectly. The response is incredible. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed the alto mouthpiece. I have been doing a lot of lead playing and it cuts through with no problem.
- Mary Lou Kupiak
“I was using your symphony model 5* on alto until I tried your 4*3. It is just wonderful. On tenor I was using a Berg until I tried you tenor jazz 4*3 and 7*3. I’m using a Rico 3 ½ on the 7*3 and a medium hard La Voz on the 4*3. They both play very good for me.”
- Gerald Cappuccio
“I am playing the soprano 6* and it is great. The mouthpieces plays very welling tune and speaks out. That is saying a lot for any soprano mouthpiece.”
- Paul Colocchio
“I am currently using Lakey mouthpieces on soprano, clarinet, alto and tenor. I use them in combo work, an eight piece band, and in big bands. They cut through very well and are extremely easy to play. Thanks for the great mouthpieces!”
- Jack Pierce
“Between the tenor and alto mouthpieces of yours – you’ve progressed my playing many years. You’ve made playing so much more enjoyable. Thanks again for helping me make music.”
- Bill Holman
“I favor the Lakey jazz alto 5*3 and I played it at a rehearsal in a municipal band and noticed how effortless it blew. And the projection was great. I seem to be relaxing my embouchure and not working so hard. Let the mouthpiece do the work. The tenor plays equally well.”
- Rich Ullman
“With my new acquisition of the alto 4*4, I am now putting my Meyer alto in a drawer. I already use the 7*3 on tenor and 6* on soprano and am finding the tenor suits my sound requirements more and more.”
- Neil McLean
“I played with a rock band called “The Motels”. I used a wide variety in my endless search for the right equipment – Otto Link metal, Beechler metal and hard rubber, the obligatory Berg Larsens, and a VanDoren Java that sounded good but they pooped my neck out. I wish I’d known about Claude Lakey mouthpieces before.”
- Marty Jourard
“Let me thank you for an incredible product. I play with “Baby Face” and I really love my new Lakey tenor 8. It gives me the volume I need and still maintains the warmth and sensitivity that allows me to be expressive, and the intonation is great.”
- Rastine Calhoun
“As soon as I put a reed on the alto mouthpiece I knew one of them was going to work for me. Then I started to play both of them. My wife came in my studio and said what sounds so different. I played the 2 you sent and my Myers 6* for her and she likes all three but your 7*3 was moving the photos on the wall. I will keep both. Thanks for everything Nick.”
- Robert Vanacore
“I play a Lakey 7*3 hard rubber on my tenor and really like it---it honks. I see by your website that you don’t make one for bari sax; any recommendations on one that would come close to a Lakey hard rubber?”
- Joe Chinnici
“Thank you so much for the mouthpiece! It's fantastic! I'm very happy and fulfilled with my purchase! I've found the sound that I was searching for on my sax! Claude Lakey is the best!”
- Gianni Daga
“Thank you for the mouthpiece. I used it for our gig last night. What a treat. I am really pleased, as how it handled and it’s so easy to play. Just need to get the right reed strength. Thanks for your suggestion.”
- Ken Radomsky
“I am surprised at the news re the aluminum alto mouthpieces. I had heard the alto ones, for example, as I found, were brilliant. As always, each one to his own!! I have found harmony with the alto aluminum Lakey mouthpiece, so I am for ever thankful. It will finally become a collector's piece!”
- Rodney Croft
“What a pleasure to know that there are still real people out there who care about their craft. Thanks for the opportunity to learn something more about your mouthpieces. I will try both 6* and the 7* for my soprano and see what works out.”
- Richard Harner
“I have an Alto 8* aluminum mouthpiece which is great with my 1967 Selmer Paris Mark VI; is the tip opening .095. Look forward to hearing from you again.””
- Rodney Croft
“I didn’t ask my dealer, but she ordered the mouthpiece from the headquarters of this music store from Budapest (capital of Hungary). But I see too, that you can buy your mouthpieces from many music stores here in Austria. You can be sure, that all my students are testing “Claude Lakey” in the next days ? and there is coming some peer review from friends there are musicians too ;-) and don’t worry – i like this mouthpieces more and more. I can’t remember that I have so much fun to practise on the saxophone last 10 years. oh – want to say – for me the best sound, play with “La Voz – med.hard” and “Claude Lakey Tenor Brass 9*” Great – Great – Great.”
- Hannes Meixner
“I have been recommended to you by one of our great sax players in Oz who says that your new metal tenor piece is amazing - he is the most "searching for the answer" sax man I know so I really respect his views. We are the saxophone specialist store for Australia (The Music Place - Australia's saxophone Place) and I would be really interested in finding out more about dealership possibilities. We have sold many Lakey rubber pieces over the years already”
- David Temby
“Hi Nick, The mouthpiece finally arrived today!! There was a mail strike in Queensland, and everything was held up for three days. The mouthpiece quite frankly is unbelievable. It does everything you said it would. I have finally found the mouthpiece that does all the things I want. I couldn't stop playing it. I spent the first two hours marveling at the power and projection, after which I started exploring the softer, sub tone side of it. It has enough resistance to make circular breathing easy, and I have an easily accessible four octave range. It really is remarkable. As I've probably told you, I've played all of the "high end" m/pieces, and while they have certain things that they do well, it was always at the expense of other qualities. Yours does it all, from a burning Brecker sound to a Dexter ballad sound, but most importantly of all it allows me to produce the sound that's in my head. Congratulations on producing such an exquisite mouthpiece. I think I'd better start saving my money so I can check out your soprano and alto pieces in the future. Again, thank you for everything. I'm overjoyed, my search is over.”
